Tsinghua High School students won the 16th Beijing Youth Science and Technology Innovation Mayor Award

On January 25, 2018, the results of the 16th Beijing Youth Science and Technology Innovation Mayor Award were announced, and Tsinghua High School student Chen Tinghan won the award。

Chen Tinghan is a student of Class 1506, High School Affiliated to Tsinghua University. He has won the Chairman's Award, First prize, STEM Elite Award of the 32nd National Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition, the first prize of the 37th Beijing Youth Science and Technology Innovation Competition, and the Best Project Award of the Yale Science and Technology Association Award。In addition to science and technology, he also participated in the "Hope China" Youth English Education Drama Competition and won the first prize for short plays。

Chen Tinghan won the Mayor's Award for the project of "Induction Temperature Control Breathing apparatus for Fire Fighting"。On the basis of the existing gas masks, the project developed a fire-fighting life-sustaining respirator with the characteristics of temperature self-sensing start-up, efficient and rapid reduction of inhaled gas temperature, and light wearing, which can greatly reduce the personal injury and life loss caused by fire。

The life-sustaining breathing apparatus for fire fighting must have the three characteristics of rapid cooling, long-term performance and lightweight wear to meet the requirements of providing sufficient low temperature inhalable gas and sufficient rescue and escape time in the high temperature environment of fire。However, conventional steam compression/suction refrigeration, heat sink refrigeration, air cooling and other methods, or because of large volume, heavy load, or because of slow cooling speed, short duration, can not meet the requirements of fire rescue and escape。The project can continuously and rapidly convert 200℃ hot air into breathable air below 40℃, and the working time can reach more than 30 minutes, and the structure is simple and easy to wear。Through novelty search, there is no literature report and patent invention of life-sustaining breathing apparatus with the same functional characteristics。

A total of ten teenagers won the Beijing Youth Science and Technology Innovation Mayor Award this year。
